FAQ
Most frequent questions and answers
We offer Simultaneous and Consecutive interpretation methods. Let us know what your needs are and we’ll provide an interpreter with the appropriate training and skillset.
Simultaneous interpreting, where the interpreter translates as the person is speaking, can reduce meeting time, but can also be difficult for clients to understand, since two people are speaking at once. Consecutive interpreting, where the interpreter waits for the person to finish speaking before interpreting, will increase meeting time but may have better results.
Court certified interpreters have the skills needed to work in the courts and interpret legal matters. If you need an interpreter for a legal matter, you may be required to use a court certified interpreter. Court certified interpreters may cost more than agency certified interpreters.
Agency certified interpreters are interpreters who have been certified by the agency they work for and can work on medical, school, and other non-legal assignments. All our interpreters have passed rigorous online and in-person examinations to ensure that they have the skills needed to meet your needs.
Interpreter costs vary depending on certification levels required, language, availability of interpreters, how much time a job will take, type of interpretation needed, travel and/or lodging costs.
As soon as you know you need an interpreter, contact us. Hiring an interpreter in advance will help keep costs down.
We will provide you with the best interpreter to meet your needs. All our interpreters pass rigorous examinations to ensure a high level of service. If you would like to know whether your interpreter is certified, ask for their name and check with the following agencies:
For Medical and administrative interpreters:
- California State Personnel Board (Administrative and Medical) licensed interpreters
- Certified Medical Interpreters (CMI)
- The American Translators Association (ATA) – only for limited languages; for written translation
For court-certified interpreters:
- California Judicial Council Court Certified and Court Registered legal interpreters
- Federally Court Certified Interpreters
Book as far in advance as possible. Booking in advance will increase the chances that you’ll be able to work with a local interpreter so you can avoid costs due to travel time, mileage, and lodging. There are a limited number of interpreters for each language, especially if you need a court-certified interpreter. The longer you wait to book, the higher the risk that an interpreter will not be available.
